My computer

aka reasons to keep the case closed and clean your room often

Disclaimer

This page was created on a rainy Monday afternoon in the last week of holidays in winter 2004. I simply had nothing better to do. I do not intend to brag about my (lack of) computer hygiene.

To go boldly where no man has gone before...

... in the last year, anyway. The last time I cleaned this little shitbox must've been around this time one year ago. It wasn't quite so bad last time, but I still ended up shovelling so much crap out of it that I promised myself I will clean it every few months. But I let it slide for a whole year... and I kept the case open too... and I got away with not vacuum cleaning my room for the last few months. The result?

Feast your eyes on this:

Some details

If you're wondering what that huge chunk of copper doing sitting where the cooler is supposed to be - it's a Zalman heatsink. I have an AMD Athlon processor that tends to overheat very easily (especially in the summer - that's why the case is usually open). The regular coolers sound like freakin turbo-props and drove my whole house crazy after a week. The Zalman is considerably quieter - I can sleep with the computer running.

If you're interested in finding out more about this heatsink, click here.
