Useless creationsOver the past few weeks I've come to the realisation that my homepage still doesn't have anything to show for the 3(!) years I've already spent at uni. So I've decided to create this section - it's not too impressive at the moment but I hope I can come up with something better in the near future. Anyway, here goes... Since this section is slowly growing, here's a brief summary of what you'll find here:
My first Java appletWell, ok, it's not my first, but it's the first one that I would want anybody else to see. It's a numeric converter... It got written on a lazy Saturday afternoon in February 2005. Once I got sick of converting to different bases manually I decided to conjure up something to make the task a bit easier. So it's not entirely useless... And yes, I know that there are probably zillions of converters out there on the net (most of which are probably better than this one). But this one's mine! I'll put the source up a bit later. For now, here's the actual applet.
You will need the Java Runtime Environment for your browser to see anything. For the hopelessly lost, I'll put up directions on how to get it up and running when I can be bothered. As an aside: I know this thing could well be written in php, but the whole idea was to get a java applet going. You can get the source here [ Back to

MyOxaka My Noughts and CrossesFor lack of a better heading, this can also be called My Second Java Applet

MyGuitarTunerWhen I first started playing electric guitar back in second year uni, I found that for some reason it's a bit harder to tune. To top it off, I started playing along to some of my favourite songs on my stereo, and to my dismay I realised that it sounded horrible... one of the reasons was I was pretty crap at playing the guitar (I'm still not that good :)). The other reason was that the guitar was a bit out of tune. Since I had no musical hearing (it's actually pretty amazing I can play anything) and I was too cheap to go out and buy a tuner, I found this neat app on the net which helped a lot. It was all fine and dandy while I was using Windows, but when I gave Microsoft the flick and switched to Linux, I couldn't use the tuner anymore. Riding on the back of my recent Java obsession was the idea to write my own tuner - it wasn't that complicated and it could actually serve a purpose. So off I went and wrote this...
You can get the source here There are gazillions of these things on the net (just try here) but this one is mine... The next time I find a reason to boot into Windows at home (there aren't many) I'll try and find the name and website of the app I was using. I'm still using their sound files for the tuner applet, so I guess it's only fair to link to them. The site is here. Their application has actually gone a fair way since I last saw it - the GUI looks a lot more sexy now... There's also a metronome there. It's pretty useful. Maybe that will be my next project... Here's what's on the To do list:
PS. Alrite, I actually do have musical hearing, I just find it incredibly hard to tune a guitar properly without any outside aid [ Back to
